We pride ourselves in our nurses who are creative, caring, energetic, and seeking opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Opportunities available for our nurses include:

  • cross-training
  • task forces
  • committees and action teams
  • performance improvement initiatives
  • educational programs

Our nurses embrace the principles of Family Centered Care and are excited about helping build families. A family-centered approach empowers women and their families and fosters independence; supports their caregiving and decision making; respects choices made by women and their families in all aspects of planning, delivery, and evaluation of their healthcare services. This is accomplished by having Family Centered Advisory Group that is comprised of mothers, nurses, and physicians. Utilizing these principles the advisory group assists us in making the hospital experience less intimidating and one where the patient and family participate in their care.

Our nurses enjoy….

  • flexible schedules
  • a great team atmosphere
  • many opportunities to become involved in their profession
  • educational opportunities

If your area of interest is providing care to women, children and families, there is a place for you at WellSpan Health.

As a regional level III transfer facility, York Hospital can provide care for a significant number of high risk patients, including mothers transferred from surrounding hospitals. Our RN's work in collaboration with Perinatologists, Obstetricians, Certified Nurse Midwives, Resident physicians, Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialists, Neonatologists, Pediatricians, and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. This dedicated team supports our nurses in providing women and their families with a broad range of services.

  • labor support using complementary non-pharmacological pain management interventions
  • bereavement support services through our RTS program
  • operating suites within the L&D unit
  • 24-hour anesthesia coverage
  • high-risk antepartum and intrapartum care

Our nurses provide a gentle touch blended with the most advanced technology for our families during their birthing experience.

Mother-Baby Care

The care delivery team of Maternity is comprised of RN's, LPN's and nursing assistants. We care for our postpartum families in a mother-baby couplet assignment. We also care for stable antepartum patients who need bedrest and monitoring. The Maternity staff is fortunate to have Certified Lactation Consultants available every day to meet the needs of our breast feeding mothers - both inpatient and outpatient. We also extend our services to the gynecologic patients.

We provide the following services for our patients:

  • comprehensive education
  • individualized care coordination with support of an RN care manager
  • hearing screens for newborns
  • internet pictures
  • lactation store and out-patient LC services

With the shortened length of stay for new moms and their babies, our nurses are attentive in coordinating the families need for follow-up care after going home. The nurses evaluate the need for home visit, telephone follow-up, or early doctor office visits as well as referring the families to resources in their community. Our mother-baby nursing team is excited about being a part of the new growing family.

Our nurses have many opportunities to be active in unit-based staff-facilitated councils that continuously improve patient care.

Level III Neonatal Intensive Care

The York Hospital NICU is a 22-bed, Level III unit, with a multidisciplinary team of Neonatologists, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, a primarily RN nursing staff, Respiratory Therapists, Occupational and Physical Therapists, and a dedicated Certified Lactation Consultant. The NICU is a regional transport center where our nurses provide high quality and state of the art care to high risk infants and their families.

The NICU is recognized for its developmentally sensitive care program. In addition we provide:

  • kangaroo care
  • infant massage
  • parent support group
  • liberal visitation
  • infant CPR classes
  • parent video library

Our weekly interdisciplinary rounds provide our nurses with the opportunity to actively participate in care coordination for our infants. Nurses participate in a variety of unit councils which enhance patient care. Some of these topics are:

  • neonatal clinical practice and research
  • skin care
  • developmentally sensitive care
  • orientation

The York Hospital's NICU team is a strong and dynamic one, and we're proud of the care we give to the infants and families and to each other!

Pediatrics

Pediatric Nursing is a “special experience”. We care for children from the age of 2 days to 16 years with a wide variety of illnesses and injuries including:

  • trauma
  • respiratory illnesses
  • orthopedic injuries
  • medical conditions
  • post surgical care
  • neurologic conditions

Hospitalization of a child is a difficult time for the child and their family. Recognizing the important role of the family in the child's recovery, we encourage the family to participate in the care of their child. We provide physical and emotional support to the child and their family by offering:

  • overnight accommodations for parents
  • Child Life Specialists who provide age-appropriate education and diversional activities
  • a dedicated staff with extensive experience in caring for children.

Our goal is to make the hospital experience successful, positive, and as pleasant as possible. If you like children, come join our team and help us reach our goal.
